Mia's first vet visit

I can't remember if she had fleas. I don't think she did, I think the tech had treated them. This vet lady was very awesome. I liked her a lot. I took Mia to see her right away, we were all okay with lab mix. Thinking about it now, the rescue had put her at a year and a half, but my vet told me that after a year or so it was difficult to tell, and she might be a little older than that because of some of the wear on her teeth, but there was no way to be sure. We flipped her on her back so that she could see her belly and I just remember her saying, "Oh, your definitely a Georgia dog." I asked why and she told me should could feel the shot and maybe bbs in her legs from Mia being target practice when she was a stray dog. Common in stray dogs from the countryside of Georgia, apparently. This explained so many things about Mia's personality. She always hated loud noises, and panic barked at things that startled her. This is probably why she started off playing w

Bailey's not a plott hound... (1st vet trip)

I was told by the adoption shelter to take Bailey the vet asap to make sure she was healthy, you know, kinda like you have a car checked out before you buy it in case it's a lemon. Also, in hindsight, it's good to establish a vet for your dog as soon as you can. So I looked one up near my house with some good reviews, made an appointment and brought my dog in. I had had Bailey for about 2 or 3 days at this point, and she was already the greatest thing ever. I was so immediately in love with this dog and her gentle soul and sad eyes that I didn't really care what they told me about her, I wasn't going to give her back. She seemed healthy enough anyway, so I wasn't worried. I gave the paperwork to the receptionist, and everything seemed in order... until she got to breed. She looked at the "plott hound" on the paper, and I don't even think she'd ever heard of that. She looked at my dog, then looked at me, and she was like "I don't think

How I got an angel dog, Bailey

I never knew I wanted a dog until I had one. Basically, I had 2 or 3 really bad relationships in a row and I decided, screw men, I'm getting a dog. I started looking online. I found myself drawn to brindles and pitbull types, but I didn't want a pitbull. I didn't think pitbulls were inherently bad as most people do, I just didn't want to risk the possibility of getting a powerful dog that had the potential to go bad. I remember very well being the hospital with my second round of kidney stones, on IV drugs, and talking to Robby about this. But he was right; just meet the dog and find the one that works for you. I was smart enough to know I didn't want a puppy and I didn't want a dog that barked since I would be working and lived in an apartment. I also wanted a girl. Those were my stipulations. Also, boy or girl, the name was going to be Bailey for 2 reasons. Reason 1: I liked the name from Party of Five. Reason 2: I liked the name of Bailey when I named dog

How Mia came into my life.

I'm not sure if I've ever told anyone the whole story about the day I got Mia. I remember it very, very well, even though it was almost 10 years ago at this point. I had decided that Bailey needed a friend. Bailey was such an easy dog, and I had taken her with me to visit home that summer where she loved playing with Tilwyn so much. She loved playing at the dog park. So I wanted to get her a play toy, a dog that was a playmate for my best friend. I knew I didn't want a puppy; I had briefly tried that and it didn't work and I was now fully aware of how much work a puppy was. I wanted a full grown dog that was the same size as Bailey, since she was pretty much the perfect size at about 45lbs. I kinda wanted a black dog, since they are the lowest rate of adopted animals, but size was the only thing that would be a definitive yay or nay factor. About a week before the fateful Saturday, I went to the shelter where I had gotten Bailey, just to take a look. There was a m
